June is Pride month, and this year we are not only celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community, we are standing up and speaking out against hate. According to a report from the American Library Association, the number of demands to ban or restrict library materials nearly doubled in 2022. Of the 2,571 unique titles targeted for censorships, the majority were written by or about members of the LGBTQIA+ community and people of color. This cannot go ignored. June is Pride Month! Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall Riots, which happened June 1969, and was a starting point for the Gay Rights movement. The Stonewall Inn, where the riots took place, in New York City recently gained landmark status.
