SNEAK PEEK: Parrots Over Puerto Rico

Iguaca! Iguaca!

Look! Up in the sky! It’s a Puerto Rican parrot!

Out in October, we’re excited to give you a sneak peek at Parrots Over Puerto Rico!

Parrots Over Puerto Rico
Puerto Rican parrots

Did you know that the Puerto Rican parrot almost became extinct in the 1960s, due to centuries of foreign exploration and occupation, development, and habitat destruction? It’s scary to think about, especially because there were once hundreds of thousands flying over the island. Thanks in part to the hard work of the Puerto Rican Parrot Recovery Program (PRPRP), the Puerto Rican parrot has made an amazing recovery!

Scientists and the Puerto Rican parrots

Susan L. Roth and  Cindy Trumbore, the award-winning author and illustrator team who created The Mangrove Tree, once again bring striking collage illustrations and engaging storytelling to tell readers the history of the Puerto Rican parrot and the island of Puerto Rico. The book is a Junior Library Guild selection and has received a starred review in Publisher’s Weekly. To read the full review and see more images from the book, check out the Parrots Over Puerto Rico page!
